Political Art

This is a painting by Norman Rockwell called "The Problem We All Live With". It was made in 1964. It was an iconic image during the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. This painting shows Ruby Bridges, a six-year-old african american girl walking on her way to an all white public school. Because of the threats against her she is escorted by 4 deputy U.S. Marshals. On the wall behind her is the racial slur n****r, and the letters KKK.  The white protestors are not visible, because the viewer of this painting is looking at it from their point of view. It measures 36 inches high by 58 inches wide. I picked this painting because I felt it told a strong story. This was a very real event in a time of great racial divide.
