The portrait displayed is one of former US President Barack Obama. The art piece was painted by Kehinde Wiley who is a well known African American painter. The background greenery lends an interesting visual aspect to the painting and also symbolically represents Obama's history. Each flower depicted represented something different. The
chrysanthemum, the official flower of the City of Chicago, jasmine from Hawaii where Obama spent his childhood; and blue lilies for Kenya, where his father hailed. I think the look on Obama's face however, does not depict how he was as a president. He looks quite serious and glum in the photo but he was actually the exact opposite in the eyes of many.
