Jackson Pollock


Jackson Pollock was a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. In 1953 he painted this piece called "The Deep".  I researched that in the early 1950's Pollock was straying from the drip period to a period referred to as Black pourings. His work became darker in color, as this picture is.  Pollock was an alcoholic and during this time of his life he was personally lost and this picture may be meant to symbolize that.
