Obama Portrait

This 7 foot portrait by Kehinde Wiley portrays President Barack Obama sitting in a black suit leaning forward and as a New York Times article says like he is listening to what is being said. What makes this so different is that it is not just a portrait of a political figuire, it also shares a piece of Barack Obamas history. The African blue lilies represent Kenya, where his father was born, the Jasmine represents Hawaii, where Barack Obama was born, and the chrysanthemums are the official flower of Chicago, where Barack Obama started his political career and met Michelle. I really like the addition of the flowers to the portrait, I think it displays a little part of where he came from and then the portrait itself shows where he is now.
