Alice Neel moved to Spanish Harlem after living in Greenwich Village. In "Alice Childress" she paints a portrait of a playwright, who at the time was just starting off but later went onto writing well known plays and novels such as "Like one in the family." I really like the colors in this portrait. In the front of the portrait there is only primary colors, red, yellow, blue. In the background there is a teal green in the flower vase and the color of the wall is a aqua blue. I also really like the details of her fingernails being painted, the necklace and the earrings.
