This piece called Pay Up or Shut Up was created in 2015 by Shepard Fairey. It is mixed media (Stencil, Silkscreen, and Collage) on Canvas. The idea of this artwork was "that the most crucial step in fighting against political corruption and forcing politicians to get back to creating the greatest good for the greatest number of people is to reform our current campaign finance structure" (Seem Gallery, 2018). Shepard Fairey was using his artwork to make fun of the idea pushed by Citizens United that money is speech. However, following that logic means that the only speech listened to is the speech with the most amount of money behind it. Fairey expresses that politics has become a theme that those with the most amount of money will be seen, heard, and influential within this country.
