Vik Muniz
This piece is called Mother and Children (Sullen), and it is from "Pictures of Garbage". For this Muniz traveled to Jardim Gramacho, which is a massive landfill near Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. There he would make portraits of people going through the garbage to find recyclable materials. He took those images and blew them up, he then covered them in trash to add color, and to show highlights and shading. I really liked this one because it showed insight into the lives of the people he captured. Even though the baby is not looking right at the camera, the mother and other child are looking right at it. It's like they are looking into your soul. I really liked the emotion that I felt from this piece.
