Vik Muniz

This image above is of Vik Muniz’s, The Card Players, after Cézanne, 2012. This photo is from his series of Pictures of Magazines 2. This creation by Vik Muniz, is a recreation of Paul Cézanne, the French Post-Impressionist oil painting of The Card Players. This picture is the made from magazine scraps to create a reproduction of the known masterpiece by Cézanne. I found his use of the magazine as an art medium to be incredible. Vik Muniz has such a unique eye and ability to turn things from trash and magazines into amazing creations. The Card Players, demonstrates two men playing cards, at a small card table. The man on the left is depicted smoking a cigarette. I love how the longer you stare at the creation you see the different small images from the different magazines used. I was impressed when I saw how close this creation was to Paul Cézanne’s original. The use of the magazines shows a slightly different take as the magazine adds some texture and depth, but still maintains Muniz’s ability to shade and create the picture.
