In the article titled, "A Houston Homeowner Is Uncovering a Painted-Over Sol LeWitt on Her Wall- but She Doesn't Own It", the author describes a story in which a family moves into a home. The mother of the household discovers that beneath one of her walls was a piece of artwork, created by the famous Sol LeWitt. She attempts to uncover or "unerase" the painting by LeWitt. During this process, the ownership of the work is questioned. Although she owns the home, she does not own the artwork created by LeWitt. The author of the article states, "Because the Menil owns the certificate, it holds the right to create the work" (Kaplan 2018). Further dispute develops about whether the painting should continue to be uncovered or if it should remain as is to preserve its value.
