A Bigger Splash

This painting by David Hockney is titled "A Bigger Splash." It depicts a Californian swimming pool from the late 1970s. Hockney was originally from London but moved to California after college and was amazed at how everybody owned a swimming pool. He was intrigued by the fact that the climate allowed the use of a swimming pool to be all year round, unlike in Britain where it would be far too cold for most of the year. I really like this painting and think he created the splash of water in a unique way. It seems like somebody just did a cannon ball off the diving board and was sinking to the bottom.
