This painting is titled, "Dana Gordon" and is painted by Alice Neel. She is known for painting portraits of all kinds of people: friends, family, strangers, etc. Her painting use a lot of bold colors and lines. The people in her portraits are often distorted and lie somewhere between realistic and cartoon-ish. her use of shading and highlights really brings these individuals to life. Aside from this, her portraits evoke strong emotions. She somehow captures real feeling in all of them. I really like her portraits because they capture people in their natural habit and portray their natural faces, rather than being posed to smile.
